Lightweave
Lightweave is a photographic project that explores the hidden qualities of light by embracing aberration and distortion. Presented in black and white, these landscape images challenge traditional notions of photographic perfection, using a unique combination of a high-end Hasselblad digital back, a technical camera, and an old Box Brownie lens. Taken throughout the valleys, streams, and woodlands of the Cotswolds near Stroud, the series seeks to reveal new perspectives on the natural world by blending modern precision with vintage optical imperfections.
Driven by both frustration and excitement with modern photography's pursuit of flawlessness, Lightweave embraces the aesthetic potential of imperfection. By utilizing overlooked parts of the lens and camera, the project enhances texture, shape, and contrast, pushing the boundaries of what is traditionally considered an acceptable image. Through this creative exploration, Lightweave invites viewers to experience landscapes in a new way—where distortion becomes beauty and imperfection reveals hidden depth.
