A Temporary Place

Spanning three years of immersion and observation, ‘A Temporary Place’ expresses my personal connection to the River Severn through a collection of black-and-white images. The Severn, with its tidal flow, sandbanks, incredible wildlife, trees, reeds, driftwood and human traces, embodies nature’s constant transformations. This project highlights the subtle changes affecting the river’s environment and the influence of human activity.

‘A Temporary Place’ is a study of our connection to the river. In the process of creating the series, I discover the elements that draw us to this place and bring us back to it. Returning to the river offers the opportunity to experience its perpetual cycle of change in its landscape and structures, and the effect of human presence, with each visit offering a fresh perspective.

Long walks and patient observation have resulted in a diverse series of images that show the river and all that connects to it, endlessly changing.

‘A Temporary Place’ celebrates the River Severn’s changing nature and reminds us that nothing is permanent.
